Your Skin While Traveling: Travel Kit Essentials

Humidity, late night drinks on the beach and the sheer stress (and visiting family) can wreak havoc on your skin while traveling. While you’re on the go this summer, here are some skincare tips to keep your skin looking its best.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

The most important thing you can do for your skin is to keep it hydrated. Two liters of water a day keeps skin problems at bay.

You can also refresh your skin with a homemade, easy-to-carry mineral water face spray. It’s the perfect item for a beach bag or carry-on and immediately cools your skin. Hydrated skin is happy skin.

Protect with SPF

Protect your face and body with a gel, lotion or spray with a high SPF to keep your skin healthy. If you have oily skin, try a sunscreen that is oil-free or non-greasy like a spray-on mist. If you burn easily, stick with a sunscreen with an SPF 50 or higher.

And don’t forget to protect your lips. Pick a lip balm with SPF to prevent dry and chapped lips. Bonus points if it’s water resistant!

Face Wipes

Cleansing and exfoliating wipes refresh the skin and are the ideal solution for removing makeup when you are on the go. Face wipes are perfect for traveling because there is no need for cleanser or rinse. Exfoliating wipes remove impurities, dead skin cells and all traces of dirt—leaving you with soft, radiant skin.

Red-Eye Recovery

It’s possible to look and feel great after catching the red-eye. Cabin air can be seriously drying, and caffeinated beverages and alcohol can also dehydrate you, making your skin appear dull and swollen.

Combat puffiness and dark undereye circles with a cooling face and eye mask, undereye gels or putting crushed ice in a washcloth and apply it under your eyes.

Keep Your Favorite Cleanser and Moisturizer

Regularity is a major aspect of what makes a good skincare routine. Avoid using unfamiliar hotel products on your face and make sure to pack your daily cleanser and moisturizer. An abrupt change in your cleansing routine can disrupt your skin’s acid balance and cause a vacation breakout.

If you can’t find a travel size of your product, look for the active ingredients to understand why you use each product while searching for the right alternative. And if you can’t leave behind your holy grail items, make your own travel sizes.

Soothe and Relax

Need some relief from the sun? Aloe vera is a skin savior that rejuvenates the skin. Whether it comes as a lotion, gel or straight from the plant, aloe vera heals burns and nourishes the skin. On top of some aloe vera, pack your favorite body lotion and tube of hand cream to keep the body moisturized and prevent peeling.

Use these 6 tips to take care of your skin all summer. Protect yourself from the sun, give your skin the love and care it needs and don’t skimp on the beauty sleep.
